New York City art-pop collective Erica Eso announced the release of their upcoming record, "129 Dreamless GMG," a few weeks ago. It comes on the heels of their previous record, "2019," which was released back in 2015. And the band has come a long way in those 3 years.
Originally home to a bedroom pop aesthetic, the band has now grown to include a wider range of sounds and disciplines. Led by group architect Weston Minissali, Erica Eso also includes drummer Rhonda Lowry, bassist Nathanial Morgan and singers Ellen O and Angelica Bess. And it's through a true sense of collaboration that the band seeks to undermine the borders between genres and allow their music to occupy a space of its own choosing.
Their latest single, "Love-gun," is full of the experimental pop movements which the band has become known for, even as they move into a slinkier R&B atmosphere. Squiggly electronics zip around in the background as liquid vocals sail across this dreamy and involving pop landscape. The band draws these different sounds together, finding the perfect balance of comfort and tension.
Released via NNA Tapes, "129 Dreamless GMG" will be available on March 16.
